Medieval Jousting - Arundel Castle

What a terrific day. Roger and I decided to go to Arundel Castle as this week there has been a Medieval Jousting Tournament. I have always wanted to attend a Medieval day and today was no disappointment. We arrived just before the gates opened and were greeted by minstrals playing, and lining the castle gate were several members of the group in period costumes.

Once inside there were several tents erected depicting the lifestyle of the period. Blacksmiths, cooking, basket weaving and arrow making tents were just a few of the displays. Between jousting rounds there were demonstrations of hand to hand combat. The great thing was that the jousting was not for demonstration it was actually a tournament, a sport that all the knights took very seriously. The winner will be crowned on Sunday.

West Grinstead

What a great weekend. Friday night was rather quiet after we took Belle for a bike ride but Saturday was much busier.

We woke in the morning to a very restless Belle so decided to start the day with a bike ride. We probably rode for 3 miles or so, just enough to tire her out. The rally field was right on the bike path so it was nice and safe.

Took a few pictures of the gorgeous countryside.

Unfortunately the weather had finally decided to cool down and did so with a vengence. The wind was very strong and it stayed very cool and overcast most of the day.

Jayme decided to join us so her and I spent a good couple of hours geocaching. We found three of them and discovered a really lovely bridle path. Once we got back to the motorhome we had a bbq before Jay and I played cards till bedtime. It was a lovely afternoon. I love spending time with her it is always a good laugh.

Jay left early this morning so Roger and I decided to take Belle for another bike ride. We actually made it to West Grinstead. The bike path actually comes out at the now long gone train station at West Grinstead. The only remnant that we could see to that era as the train coach now used as an information booth.

After taking a break we headed back to the motorhome only for Roger to get a flat tire on his bike about 1.5 miles from home. So with the two of us taking turns riding and pushing we finally made it back to the motorhome in time to pack up and head home.

Today has been a very hot one, probably near 30 degrees, so this afternoon and evening has been spent justt trying to cool down!

Not sure where we are going next weekend but I did enjoy the Surrey DA group, very friendly so I think we will try another district meet next weekend.

North Downs

What a beautiful view first thing in the morning! Sure beats looking out the living room window at home!

Arrived last night in Partridge Green and almost immediately set off on the bikes down the North Downs bike path. For those that don't know the North Downs Path is a disused rail line so makes for perfect biking conditions....nice and level!! Belle is absolutely loving all the exercise!

Today promises to be glorious, 25 degrees but we seem to have a nice cooling breeze here at the site so bring it on! Later this morning hopefully Jayme will be joining us and we may do a bit of geocaching! Nice lazy weekend.

Off to Partridge Green

It is finally Friday again and we are off to the Surrey DA meet in Partridge Green. Looking forward to it as originally we were booked into the Slinfold site again but with the heat the site, with very littlle grass, was so enclosed it was almost unbearable. The meet is in a grass field so will hopefully be more comfortable.

Slinfold Caravan Club site

What a beautiful hot day. After the work BBQ yesterday we packed the motorhome and headed to Slinfold to test out the Caravan Club. Belle was so excited last night that once we set up I thought we would have to pack right up again and head home! She barked at everything!! So off came the bikes and we hit the North Downs bike trail which started only a few feet from our motorhome.

I have never been a fan of campsites because they are so busy and this particular one is actually too small for our motorhome and we feel like we are in a tin of packed sardines! However this one is right adjacent to a terrific bike trail so we had to try it.

We persevered and today woke up feeling refreshed. Belle, on the otherhand, was full of energy so off for another bike ride we went. Gorgeous countryside and I'd say after about 4 miles Belle was getting a bit tired!

We are now just enjoying a lazy afternoon in the blistering sun and it's so peaceful. Wonder how long that will last?

Finally proof positive that Roger knows how to use a broom!

Back in touch

I have decided that since my website is a pain to update on my Ipad I would resurrect my blog so I can get back into blogging. So much has happened since I last updated this blog and there is no way I can catch up so it's time to start fresh!

We are going out in the motorhome this weekend. We don't travel far on weekends but even getting a few miles from home makes it feel like a mini holiday. We are trying to find a site near a bike path as we love biking and since we bought the attachment for the bike to let Belle run beside us it is even more fun.

We recently changed our dining room into a study/den and we love it. We felt the girls needed more space so they could chill and I needed more desk space for my scrapbooking so out with the dining table. Best decision we have made in. Long time and it looks great!
